Both current and former steroid users displayed lower insulin sensitivity which may be mediated by higher visceral adipose tissue when compared to controls. Furthermore, although the reduction in fat oxidation via glucose will improve insulin sensitivity (Figure 3), the reduction of fat oxidation may be reduced as a result of increased adiposity or the development of metabolic disorders. Thus, further studies are required to compare the changes in the lipid profiles with postprandial lipemia, and if high intensity training is used. Further research is now required to investigate the effect of training intensity on lipolytic response, which in turn may have important implications for diet and training, anabolic effects of insulin. We found the high-intensity exercise to increase VLDL-TG (β = 1.2 mL s−1) and decrease VLDL-TG (β = 1.1 mL s−1) concentrations in a dose-dependent manner and with only small changes in the concentration of free fatty acids (β = 2.11 mL s−1) (Figure 4).
